Groom returns without tying knot

A bridegroom had to return without being solemnised of marriage as the baratis created nuisance during procession. This incident took place in Basta area on Friday late night.

According to sources,  Sagar Behera from Agria village of Rupsa  arrived in a procession at Bhagirathpur under Basta block’s Brahmanda GP to marry a daughter of Sanatan Behera. However, the baratis finding a narrow road decided soon not move to bride’s house. They insisted that a fence (belonging to Sanatan’s neighbor) be removed for making the passage wide.

As the neighbour protested, they (baratis) started abusing him and bride’s relations. This led to an altercation between the baratis and bride’s relations. At least six persons belonging to the bride’s side were injured in the clash.

Aggrieved villagers then kept the groom and his relatives in their custody and reportedly rejected the marriage. The villagers set the groom’s people free the next day after a discussion but the marriage didn’t take place.
