City-based Green World that has been working for environment protection has taken a new resolution to clean the statues of great persons’ installed at major places in the city on every first and third Sundays in a phased manner.
Earlier, the organisation had made efforts to clean several statues here on an experimental basis. But, the drive would be carried out consistently from the New Year, said Green World chairman Nrupesh Kumar Nayak.
“Cleaning of such statues is carried out by both Government and various non-Government bodies only twice a year; on the birth and death anniversaries of the concerned great men. This is disgraceful. On the other hand, this also creates a different perception in the minds of visitors on the grounds of cleanliness and hygiene,” he added.
Hence, the Green World is committed to clean each statue at least once in a month, Nayak added.
