Green India 'dupes' Kandhamal investors of Rs 15 crore

Depositors from Kandhamal district on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing of the State Crime Branch alleging that the Green India Multi-State Members Credit Cooperative Society, a nonbanking financial company, duped them of around Rs 15 crore after promising hefty returns.

According to the depositors, they had deposited the money under recurring deposit and monthly income scheme and fixed plan in the Brahmapur-based financial firm of Green India under the jurisdictions of the Raikia and Balliguda branches in Kandhamal district.

The depositors said that company officials like managing director Pradeep Singh, CEO Sunil Kumar Panda and senior employees including D Ramamurti Patra, Krushna Chandra Behera, Bhagban Panigrahi, Binod Maharana, Subasini lenka, Bipin Bihari lenka and Santosh Kumar Pattnaik repeatedly persuaded them to deposit the money  under the aforesaid plans in time and assured them to take all responsibility regarding refund of the maturity value.

Though a period of more than two years has already lapsed from the date of maturity in some cases, the depositors said, these officials are not paying any heed to return the matured amounts. In addition, some pre-matured values are also pending with the company, they added.

“As we are in dire need of money, we have requested them time and again but in vain. In the mean time, the company has closed the branch offices throughout the State,” said a depositor, Bhagaban Panigrahy, adding, “Now, it is a great problem for us as to how we can get our money.”
