Though more than two days have passed to the death of Singiri Gram panchayat sarpanch Chitrasaen Das (BJD), who was lynched to death on Wednesday by a former sarpanch and his aides, but Ali police have failed to nab the culprits, alleged the deceased’s kin.
The accused earlier on last Sunday made an attempt to kill Chitrasen while he was going to attend his niece’s marriage at Rajkanika, but they failed as the place was crowded, alleged Chitrasen’s father Gurucharan Das.
According to Kendrapada SP Nitinjeet Singh, the reason behind the murder of Chitrasen by Sumant Das with the help of Khirod Das and others was only due to greed for power.
As per a preliminary inquiry, it has been established that both Chitrasen and Sumant belonged to BJD. In 2012, both locked horn by filing their nomination for the sarpanch post of Singiri. Khirod Das was supporting Chitrasen during the poll. Khirod and Chitrasen in past had hurled bombs at the house of Sumant. But later, Khirod joined hand with Sumant. Both Sumant and Khirod umpteen times threatened Chitrasen to resign from the sarpanch post, else he would face dire consequences. But when Chitrasen didn’t oblige, Sumant and Khirod hatched a plan to eliminate Chitrasen and waited patiently to get an opportunity to kill Chitrasen. On Tuesday, Sumant and Khirod, finding Chitrasen going in his motorbike with his cousin brother to Aul bazaar, chased him and lynched him to death near Chandibazar. later, they fled the spot, informed SP Singh.
Notably, Chitrasen earlier filed an FIR against Sumant and Khirod at Ali police station for threatening him, but the IIC did not take any step. On the contrary, IIC of Ali Nilakantha Patra had allegedly misbehaved with him and also detained him once. Had the IIC taken proper action against Sumant and Khirod, then they would not have killed Chitrasen on Tuesday, said Chitrasen’s family members demanding action against the IIC.
The family members and Ali MlA Debendra Sharma demanded before the SP of Kendrapada to conduct an inquiry on the alleged matter of IIC Patra’s nexus with the culprits and take action against him.
Meanwhile, Pattamundai SDPO Kedarnath Sahu has been entrusted with to inquire the murder case while several PRI members demanded a CBI inquiry into the issue.
