Grandparents seek succour for orphaned toddlers

Bharat Sandha (60) and his wife of Tabala village under Maneswar block are unable to bear the burden of two small girls, who are orphans and their grandchildren.

As per information, Bharat’s son Aswini was suffering from epilepsy and died of it on August 7 last. Aswini’s wife Kasturi committed suicide after she felt completely helpless to take care of the two girls. At that time, even the last rites of her husband had not been finished. Consequently, the duo left their orphaned girl children, Rani, just one-and-half years’ old and another of only six month, to fend for themselves.

But the grandparents didn’t lose hope and resolved to take care of the kids. However, for this old and poor couple, it was too difficult to look after the two girl children. Bharat and his wife are daily wagers and hence it is difficult for them to run their households with their little income, let alone nourishing the two girls.

“The problem before us is our poverty and old age. When we are going half fed, how can we take care of the two toddlersIJ” said Bharat to the officials whom he met here for succor. With a view to get help from the district administration, Bharat and his wife had been all the way to Sambalpur on Saturday with the two children. But they couldn’t meet the senior officials. However, the officials of the Red Cross and the Childline assured them of every possible help for maintenance of the two kids.
