Of late, banks in the State have become soft targets for miscreants. In a glaring example, the Odisha Gramya Bank’s Pratappur branch under the Badasahi police station in Mayurbhanj district was looted by three miscreants late on Wednesday night.
However, the amount of cash looted from the bank was not ascertained yet. As per the security guard of the panchayat office, the incident took place at around 1.30 am.
“I was sleeping in my room inside the panchayat office premises when I heard some noise. When I went outside, I saw three persons trying to break the backside window of the bank. As the miscreants saw me, they barged into my room and threatened by brandishing a gun at me,” said the security guard.
“They also tied my legs and hands and gagged my mouth and went inside the bank,” he added.
Reports said the miscreants broke open the grill of the backside window of the bank and carried out the loot. Getting information, police rushed to the spot after getting information and started investigation. The robbers damaged the CCTV cameras installed inside the bank and took away the hard disk. They also damaged the chest of the bank, sources said.
