After a mother of a newborn girl died on way to hospital for lack of timely medical intervention in Gajapati district, her child, which was admitted in the District Headquarters Hospital, was on Saturday handed over to Banabasi Seva Samiti of Baliguda area in Kandhamal.
Samiti’s Subhadharsi Das accepted the baby and told, “Until we find a suitable family which is ready to adopt the child, she will be staying with us. We will provide complete care to the baby.”
Gajapati District Child Protection Officer Arun Kumar Tripathy, Child Welfare Committee Chairman Binod Chandra Jena and Nageswar Choudhary from Gajapati Childline were present on the occasion.
Notably, Jyotsna Malick (36), wife of Raju Malick, of Huhari village of Mohana block had died while being shifted in a cot by villagers to the hospital. The arrangement was done as there is no road to the village and the Janani Suraksha Yojana had failed in the interior part of the district.
