A tribal man of Rupansi village under Chellagada panchayat of R Udayagiri block in Gajapati district walked about two km carrying his pregnant wife on his shoulders to reach the Chandragiri hospital.
According to reports, Sania Mandala had to carry his wife Nibasi (40), who was in her last trimester, to the Chandragiri hospital on his shoulders due to lack of road connectivity to his village. Nibasi lost her life after delivering a baby boy on the way to the hospital.
Due to muddy road, ambulance service is not available in the village. On Saturday morning, Nibasi’s labour pain had begun. Sania decided to carry her on his shoulder to reach the nearby hospital. But on the way to the hospital, her labour pain increased and she delivered the baby on top of a mountain. Then, Nibasi lost her consciousness. Though Sania managed to take Nibasi to the hospital, the woman was declared brought dead by doctors.
