Govt urged to take over of 3 HSs in Brahmapur

The Sanskarvadi, a social organisation, and the Old Students’ Associations have demanded that the State Government take over three oldest high schools of the city, the KC Town High School, the KC Boys’ High School and the KC Girls’ High School, at the earliest.

Hundreds of teachers and present and old students of these schools led by Sanskarvadi functionaries staged a demonstration in front of the KC Town High School on Friday placing the above demand. They too sat on a dharna too.

It may be noted that the three HSs stand on Government lands and are getting full aid from the Government since 1974. The agitators have argued that the schools deserve to be declared Government HSs as they have very good track records of imparting quality and disciplined-oriented education and producing many eminent personalities.

The teachers lamented that though the State Government had assured to take over these premier institutions in 1994, but the Government could not do so for monopolistic attitudes of SMC presidents. They also stated that the proposal of taking over taking the three schools had once been placed at the State Cabinet, but SMC presidents’ interference stopped that.

Besides, the agitating teachers also demanded shifting of the public school from the premises of the KC Boys High School as it is disturbing the whole academic ambience and creating space problems.

Sanskarvadi Convenor Trinath Maharana, Old Boys’ Association coordinator Raja Suresh along with local people and social workers sat on the dhrana supporting teachers’ demands, sources said.
