A State-level conference of women was held at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Saturday protesting the increasing crime rate against women in Odisha and the country as well. The conference held by the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS) was attended by a large number women coming from across the State.
AIMSS secretary Swaymprava Nayak came down heavily on the Government for not addressing the issues like dowry harassment and killings, sexual assault, harassment at workplaces, domestic violence, prostitution, honour killing and obscene portrayal women. She maintained that the only way to wake up the administration is by protesting against the system.
Stating that the murder of Tikiri schoolteacher Itishree Pradhan and the rape and murder of Bebina in Pipili expose the State Government’s seriousness towards women, Nayak said, “There are many such cases which are reported daily, but unfortunately the Government is not taking any stringent action to protect women.”
A two-day State-level conference of the AIMSS would be held in Bhubaneswar from January 31, she informed. “We will hold the conference at a time when there are massive struggles by women across the State for various reasons,” said Nayak. Nearly 200 AIMSS office-bearers would assemble on Sunday at the Koraput Bhawan in Bhubaneswar to discuss various women-related issues, she added.
