On June 26 last, which coincides with the day of proclamation of emergency in 1975, the Paschima Odisha Milita Chhatra Kriyanusthan Committee here organised a seminar to recall the unforgettable black memory. Saurav Mahapatra, the convenor of the committee presided.

Former student of GM College Dhurjati Dash and former BJP State president Suresh Pujari were the guests. While narrating the horror of the June 26, 1975, the speakers didn’t hesitate to come down heavily on the present style of Governance narrating the shabby state of affairs of democracy in India.

“Democracy, in true sense of the term, doesn’t exist in India. The Government is trying to suppress public opinion in some way or the other. Fight for the basic right of human being is being squeezed by stringent laws,” said Dash.

Coming down heavily on judiciary and the Supreme Court, in particular, Dash said, “This apex body has been functioning as the law making body.” If the Supreme Court will make law of the land, then what would be the function of our legislative bodies, like the Assemblies and the Parliament, he asked.

Pujari also lamented on the degradation of values in every sphere in the country, and particularly, in social and political arena. He also expressed concern over the role of the public who are just the silent lots although severe corruptions have occurred like the 2G spectrum, the Common Wealth Game, coal gate and mining scam.

“With change in Government, a change in the system is needed. But that is not happening,” said Pujari further. On the occasion, the organisers felicitated Radhakanta Bahidar, Md Mumtaz, Benudhar Dash, Surendra lath, Jagdish Panda and many others.
