Govt to move SC against Hi-Tech med college

The State Government would move the Supreme Court on Monday over the alleged illegal admission in MBBS and BDS streams by the authorities of Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, Rourkela.

Sources said the Health and Family Welfare Department would file three special leave petitions (SlPs) in the Apex Court.

Similarly, the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities would also file a review petition in the Odisha High Court.

Meanwhile, the Government also directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to cancel the registration of the students who have taken admissions this year in violation of the existing guidelines.

Notably, the Medical Council of India (MCI) had disallowed admission in MBBS and BDS streams in the Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, Rourkela this year citing lack of adequate infrastructure. However, challenging the order of the council, the Hi-Tech authorities had moved the Odisha High Court, which, in its order, asked the MCI to allow the hospital authorities to hold admission as per the OJEE counselling process and intimate the students accordingly.

Though the court had made it clear that both the Hi-Tech and OJEE authorities can take steps in this regard as per rules the Hi-Tech authorities, in gross violation of the directive of the court, went ahead with the admission process by conducting a separate entrance test without informing the OJEE and State Government.
