After widespread criticism of its alleged softness towards the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital and its owner Manoj Ranjan Nayak after the Monday fire tragedy, the State Government on Friday de-empanelled the city-based private healthcare facility from the list of referral hospitals with immediate effect.
“I am directed to say that in the wake of the fire incident in IMS and SUM Hospital on 17.10.2016 and disarray in the treatment of patients in your hospital, it has been decided by the Government to de-empanel your hospital with immediate effect,” said a letter issued to the SUM superintendent by Director Medical Education & Training Dr Prakash Chandra Mohapatra.
“Since the de-empanelment is resorted under exceptional circumstances in the interest of the poor patients of the State, the formality of a one-month notice as per the MoU has not been adhered to,” the letter added.
The hospital has also been removed from the list of the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), a Central Government-run health insurance scheme for BPl families. Further, the hospital, which has not obtained the requisite fire safety certificate from the Government, was also delisted as a referral hospital under the Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF). Under the OSTF, patients of BPl families, patients with annual income of Rs 40,000 in rural areas and Rs 60,000 in urban areas avail specialised treatment of diseases of lung, kidney and heart.
