A State Working Committee meeting of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) State youth wing was held here on Friday.
Various issues relating to labourers were raised at the meeting. INTUC State president and national vice-president Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia slammed the State Government for its failures in implementing the Forest Rights Act (FRA). He pointed out that the tribals have been given only the individual rights but not the community rights, Khuntia also opposed non-provision of minimum wage to various workers, including industrial workers, in the State. “Protesting this, the INTUC will stage State-wide protests in September and submit memorandums to district Collectors in September,” he said.
A total of 13 draft proposals were adopted at the meeting, said INTIC youth wing State president Satyabrata Nayak. The INTUC would set up a Sramik Sahayak Kendra in every district headquarters across the State to find out ways for solving various issues of workers and fulfillment their legitimate demands, Nayak informed. The demands also include provision of jobs by industries and companies to the youths of the peripheral areas.
“The State Government should also come out with a Whit Paper on how many people have been given employment by the existing industries across the State,” said Nayak, who presided over the meeting.
