Ambedkar Rath of the Bharat Bheem Rath Yatra, launched by the Republican Party of India (RPI) entered the city since three days.
RPI national president Ramdas Athawale welcomed the Rath at Master Canteen Square here on Saturday and addressed a gathering. He said, “Rural people are migrating to urban areas for their livelihoods and create slums in Government land. The Government also sometimes demolishes the slums by bulldozers. We demand the Government frame a necessary law for the slums and rehabilitate the slum dwellers.”
RPI adviser Kanti Kumar Jain, Jan Morcha vice-president Bibhuti Mishra and Samata Kanti Dal general secretary Jayanta Bhoi and RPI State president Sheikh Abdul Wali were present. The RPI members also raised the issues of inter-caste marriage and SC, ST and physically-disabled teachers, etc., on the occasion.
The Rath Yatra, which started from Kanyakumari on January 26, was welcomed at Chandikhol on Sunday. The yatra will conclude at Mahu, the birthplace of Ambedakar in Madhya Pradesh on May 2. The objective of the yatra is to spread messages of equality.
