leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Bhupinder Singh on Wednesday alleged that the State Government is making all out efforts to cover up chit fund scams so as to save its Ministers and MlAs, who are allegedly involved in the fraud.
Singh, while addressing a gathering during the party’s demonstration in front of the District Collectorate, said, “The people of the State had never seen such a big scam. It surpasses even the mining sector in terms of its magnitude. It all happened because of the patronage and support the fraudulent firms got from the ruling dispensation and hence, the Chief Minister should be held accountable.”
“The Government should publicly disclose the names of the alleged BJD leaders, who are hand-in-glove,” said Singh, adding, that a CBI probe can only unravel the truth. Blaming the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government, Singh said adequate steps had not been taken to check activities of the fraudulent companies, while at least 80 agencies of their ilk were opened without any legal documents in the State.
Hundreds of Congress activists under the banner of Kalahandi District Congress Committee gheraoed the District Collector’s office demanding a CBI probe into the chit fund scams in the State. They were led by district observer Ripunath Seth. The party activists took out a rally in the town shouting anti-BJD Government slogans and submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the District Collector.
