Some BJP activists led by district president Sukant Dwivedi on Wednesday took out a rally and staged a demonstration in front of Kendrapada block office protesting large scale corruption in poverty alleviation, housing and old age pension schemes in the block.
The Government doles have been siphoned off in the block in several developmental projects like MNREGA, Concrete Road project, Gopabandhu Gramina Yojana etc due to an unholy nexus between the block officials, contractors and local ruling party leaders, the agitators alleged, adding that the block authority has been giving much emphasis on the profits of the contractors while approving of projects.
The housing schemes like IAY and Biju Pucca Ghar took the form of an instrument for filling the pockets of the officials. While the poverty stricken persons have failed to avail the housing schemes, some protégés of the BJD have been sanctioned IAY and Biju Pucca Ghar illegally. The genuine beneficiaries have failed to obtain NFSA’s ration card whereas several ineligible elected people’s representatives by greasing the palms of venal officials managed to obtain the benefit, they alleged.
The BJP agitators demanded sanction of the developmental projects by organising gram sabha and palli sabha besides a redo of the beneficiary list under NFSA. later, the BJP activists submitted a memorandum to the BDO of Kendrapada for the Governor of Odisha.
