The State Government has decided to establish a multistoried Tourism Plaza and Visitors’ Centre in Bhubaneswar at an estimated investment of Rs 6.25 crore.

According to Tourism and Culture Secretary Dr Aravinda Padhee, the proposed tourism complex would be in operation within next two years. The site selection process has already started and would be finalised soon, he said, adding that the State’s Chief Architect has been assigned the job of preparing a state-of-art design for the proposed Tourism Plaza.

The complex would act as a single-window to showcase the State’s tourism and tourism infrastructure, accommodate souvenir shops, accommodate tourist offices of Odisha and other States and Government of India and all stakeholders agencies in the sector. “It would be a one-stop place to provide information relating to tourism,” Dr Padhee said

The major objective of the infrastructure is to help increase the tourist inflow, stimulate economic growth and generate substantial employment opportunities in the sectors like hotel, transport, shopping, food and entertainment, he said, adding, “Dovetailing efforts with other departments, Government of India and private agencies can be effected through a network of backward and forward linkages.”
