The State Government has approved a proposal for increasing UG and PG seats by 10 per cent in all the medical colleges run by it.
The Directorate of Medical Education & Training (DMET) has written a letter in this regard to the heads of the medical colleges asking them to apply to the Medical Council of India (MCI) by June 7.
With this move, the number of seats in the medical colleges, including the SCB, would be hiked from this academic session 2019-20.
As the UG seats have been increased by 25 at the SCB Medical College in Cuttack, a total of 275 candidates will get admission into the MBBS programme for this academic session.
Besides, the Government has given its nod to increase the UG seats by 25 for the MKCG Medical College in Berhampur, 15 in VIMSAR in Burla and 10 each in the medical colleges in Koraput, Balangir, Baripada and Baleswar.
Meanwhile, permission has been granted by the State Government for hiking the seats by 26 for admission into PG courses in the SCB Medical College for the academic session 2020-21.
The PG seats will also be increased in VIMSAR and MKCG Medical College.
However, a final decision will be taken by the MCI.
