An attempt to grab a patch of Government land  by a group of influential people  has been stalled following intervention of the local MP Rabindra Kumar Jena.

“As soon as it was brought to my knowledge by the local councilor, Iactivated the district administration to do the needful forthwith. Encroachment of the Government land won’t be tolerated in any form.

Encroachment has emerged as menace and impediments to the developmental works. Stress is laid in all the review meetings to evict the encroachers without any fear and favor,” said Jena.

The incident took place on Saturday in Sovarampur area under ward no 20 under Baleswar municipality.

The ward has around 6.5 acres of Government land. The land sharks who had an eye on the patch had begun acquiring it by constructing boundary walls after distributing the land within themselves.

The encroachment attempt was made by several influential people including policemen, said sources.

The local councillors  as well as residents while opposed the construction, which was initiated about a week ago, were threatened by the mafias of dire actions.

Councillor Kailash Das and others although approached the district administration yet their petitions had fallen in deaf ears.

MP Jena was apprised of the matter by the councillor as well as others and he was also urged to intervene.

At the behest of Jena, a team headed by the sub collector Bhabataran Sahu rushed to the site along with police.

By seeing the team, the construction workers ran away from the site.

The administration has clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPc in the area and warned stern action against the encroachers.
