Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Aryakumar Jnanendra on Monday alleged that the people of Saru village have migrated due to lack of drinking water and electricity in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s own constituency Hinjili.
Addressing a Press conference here, he said the BJD Government has failed to provide drinking water.
Odisha accounts for 11 per cent of the nation’s water resources while in terms of population it has less than 5 per cent. Yet, people are suffering from acute water crisis as only 13 per cent of the State’s households have access to tap water compared to India’s 44 per cent.
Jnanendra said two bore-wells were installed to supply water to the mining-hit village Nitigotha in
Banspal block in Keonjhar district using District Mineral Fund (DMF), but both the wells are discharging contaminated water.
Around 10 people of Laxmiprasad village of Dhanchengada panchayat in Nayagarh district have died due to kidney failure due to contaminated water, he also alleged.
He pointed out that PCC president Niranjan Patnaik has committed the if the Congress comes to power,
it would provide clean drinking water to every household, empower Gram Sabhas to take decisions independently on water sanitation and water projects, revival and rejuvenation of regional rivulets, streams and other water bodies.
