A recent notification of the State Government regarding Lecturer recruitment in the Government Colleges in which the UGC guidelines are flouted has raised eyebrows.
Educationists have maintained that the notification issued about a month ago flouts the UGC guidelines which was issued in 2018 with an objectivity to maintain a standard procedure for recruitment of teachers for all universities and colleges across India.
The UGC notification said that during recruitment for posts against vacancies the applications should be invited from the eligible aspirants.
Here however the notification on October 1 besides stating that vacancy position of lecturers is 606 of 52 Government degree colleges in 20, also mentioned that for the post of OES-I mentioned eligibility criteria is master degree in the related subject only.
“Here the OPSC bars the students, who are qualified otherwise in the related, relevant and allied subjects . Say for example the vacancy is for zoology subject. If it is specific only for zoology students, then only zoology master degree holders of a recognised university with 55 per cent mark can apply. But if it is allied, related or relevant subjects, the students of biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology, marine bio-science, bio sciences etc. can apply.
Here, the OPSC guidelines bar the students of inter disciplinary fields in the State, said a section of Lecturers under condition of anonymity urging the Government to reconsider the decision.
