Govt favours R'kela with Xavier Institute

Published on:

In an apparent move to satisfy Rourkela denizens, the State Government on Wednesday announced to open second campus of the Xavier Institute of Management in the Steel City soon.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held under Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat. It was revealed that the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) would provide all support for establishment of the proposed institute. The announcement assumes significance as it came at a time when the State Government recommended Samablpur’s name as location (subject to norm change) for the proposed Odisha IIM to the Centre even though people of Rourkela, Sambalpur and Brahmapur had been demanding their places be recommended as IIM locations simultaneously.

Among others, Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das, Chief Secretary GC Pati, RSP CEO and top officials of the Xavier Institute of Management were present.
