'Govt fails to implement drinking water helpline'

The BJP on Monday slammed the State Government for not implementing a helpline to provide drinking water to people under a project, for which the 14th Finance Commission has provided Rs 1,400 crore.

“The 14th Finance Commission has sanctioned Rs 1,400 crore to provide drinking water to people. It is disappointing that the helpline for this project is not working like other State Government helpline,” alleged BJP spokesperson Sajjan Saharma in a statement. He ridiculed the Chief Secretary for announcing the drinking water helpline number, 1800234566, only recently.

Similarly, Sharma came down heavily on the Government for publishing advertisements on introduction of a new education system (Adarsha Vidyalaya) in the State. “The Government is unable to fill up 75,000 vacant teacher posts and has created different categories of schools and teachers. In such a situation, the Government should make it clear to which extent Odia language will be protected in the new schools,” Sharma said.

He said protection of Odia language and development of Odias needs to be prioritised.
