The Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) has decided to stop work from August 1 since the State Government remains callous to their five-point charter of demands.
The office bearers of OMSA have also expressed concern for the inconvenience to be caused to the patients.
Talking to the elite citizens, officials of the social organizations, social workers and the mediapersons where the MlA of Sambalpur Dr. Raseswari Panigrahi was also present, president of the Sambalpur OMSA branch Dr Rajkumar Badpanda said that the association has many a time discussed with the State Government as to their demands which are totally genuine. “But nothing fruitful has come up,” Dr Badpanda said.
That’s the reason we are going for the cease work, he had justified.
Highlighting the demands of the doctors, the OMSA president said that timely promotion, permanent posting to the ad-hoc doctors, eight hour duty, keeping the retirement age at 60 instead of the proposed 65 are the main demands of the doctors.
While admitting the demands of the doctors to be genuine, the public present requested the doctors and the OMSA members to consider the inconvenience of the patients with suggestion that few doctors may treat the patients in the hospitals and the rest can proceed to the State capital to take part in the agitation.
At the same time the citizens present, including the MlA, also gave assurance to the doctors that they would write to the State Government to fulfill the demands of the doctors with immediate effect to avoid the difficult situation due to cease work.
