A two-day workshop of the All Odisha Urdu Persian Teachers’ Association presided over by former Urdu teacher Maulana Jainul Abedin concluded at the Jama Masjid here on Sunday.
In the workshop, the speakers highlighted the problems faced by the Urdu teachers. They said according to the prevalent process, Maulavis and Fazils recognised by the State Madrasa Board are imparting education in the minor schools and high schools. In 2011, the State Government issued a fictional qualification for eligibility of the teachers; Alim with B Ed. Nobody possesses this qualification in Odisha. Presently, there is no provision for imparting B Ed to Alims and Fazils in Odisha.
Even after the association got a stay from the High Court, the State Government did not take any steps. Three months ago a contempt of court notice but still the Government has remained unmoved, the speakers said the State Government is neglecting the Urdu language.
They alleged that the State Government has hatched a conspiracy to completely do away with the Urdu Persian language. If the aforesaid problems are not solved soon thousands of Muslims would take to the streets, said general secretary Shiekh Sirajuddin. Among others, civil society activists Pradip Pradhan , Pratap Sahu and Shiekh Abdul Wali were present.
