Govt clueless about wonder boy Budhia Singh

The State Government is clueless about the whereabouts of wonder boy Budhia Singh, who was staying at the Government-run Sports Hostel here.

Budhia has not returned since the reopening of the hostel after the summer vacation three weeks back putting the Government and hostel authorities in a tizzy.

Though the hostel authorities visited Budhia’s house at the Saliasahi slum here, they returned empty-handed as they failed to find either the boy or his mother Sukanti Das there.

Budhia’s hostel coach Rupanita Panda said, “As Budhia did not come to the hostel after the summer vacation, we inquired about him and even sent officials to his house. But Budhia and his mother are not in their Saliasahi house.”

The Government has been paying for Budhia’s education, clothes, food and stay at the hostel. He is now studying in Class-IX at the prestigious DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur here.

However, his mother had earlier alleged that his son was being deprived of proper training at the hostel and of food as well.

Ten years ago, Budhia at the age of four ran a distanced of 65 km between Puri and Bhubaneswar in seven hours and two minutes attracting attention from all.

However, the Government took Budhia under its control after a controversy erupted after the death of his coach Biranchi Das.
