The State Government decided to solve the problems faced by the farmers over the availability of sacks during procurement of paddy on March 23, which is one of the demands raised by the Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS).
The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting in the State Secretariat chaired by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma in the presence of NKS representatives.
However, Dasburma appealed to the NKS members to withdraw their stir and informed that another meeting would be held on March 26 to deliberate on other issues.
“The State Government is prepared to solve the issue of gunny bags. The Principal Secretaries of Food Supplies, Agriculture, Cooperation and Fisheries departments would be present at the meeting. We would discuss all the demands of the NKS,” said Dasburma.
“This is a Satyagraha. The State Government should admit that farmers have committed suicide due to crop loss and loan burden. The Government should also make a provision for a social security allowance of Rs 5,000 for a farmer in the budget which would cost Rs 21,600 crore,” said NKS State coordinator Akshay Kumar.
“If the Government fails to fulfill our demands then we would launch Jail Bharo agitation from March 29,” he added.
