Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) district convenor Soumya Ranjan Swain on Monday termed the Bomikhal flyover collapse as a manmade disaster and an example of the rampant corruption in the Naveen Patnaik Government.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had spoken against the prevalent ‘PC’ culture, but the mishap shows that this culture continues in the BJD Government, said Swain at a Press meet held here.Despite repeated complaints from local residents, the Government turned a deaf ear towards the safety of the flyover. Surprisingly while the construction work was in progress, people used to commute under the flyover.
If the accident had happened on Monday instead of Sunday, the causalities could have been much higher, added Swain.
The AAP demanded probe against the company and the concerned departmental officials and take strict actions against them and to scrutinise the safety guidelines and issue advisories for the safety of other bridges.
The party also demanded Rs 25 lakh to the deceased’s family and compensation to the injured.
