Six bike-borne miscreants on Wednesday fired three rounds of bullet at a person who was supervising the luna river embankment work near the Kalapada bridge under the Sadar police limits.
The miscreants fled from the spot leaving one Durga Prasad Mohapatra injured, said Kendrapada SP RN Behera. The goons were yet to be arrested.According to Dolagobinda Barik, a co-supervisor of Mohapatra, the miscreants assaulted both of them before opening fire.
But he was luckily saved. The two were engaged by contractor Ajit Kumar Sahu to supervise the Rs 1-crore embankment strengthening work. The SP said collection of extortion money is suspected to be the reason behind the attack. Firing at supervisors might be a preplan of the goons to terrorise the contractor, he said.
