The occupants of a Mahindra Bolero SUV had a close shave after the vehicle was hit by a goods train in the restricted zone of Paradip Port on Monday.

As per reports, the SUV was dragged for more than 30 meters following the collision. A major tragedy was averted as the speed of the goods train was slow. The collision occurred near the Mechanical Coal Handling Plant canteen. The SUV was partly damaged.

Though the exact reason how the accident occurred was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the driver of the SUV was at fault as he was trying to cross the railway tracks without noticing the incoming goods train.

Sources said some employees of a private company were travelling in the SUV. Following the mishap, senior officials of CISF and Paradip Port reached the sport and cleared the track.
