Gomitras attempt self-immolation

Two members of the Gomitra Mahasangha attempted to self-immolate after a rally of the association here on Friday. Police personnel present at the spot thwarted the self-immolation bid.

The Mahasangha has been staging a protest near the lower PMG for past four days demanding fulfilment of its three-point charter of demands, which includes permanent jobs.

On the day, members of the association took out a procession from the protest site, and when they reached near a police barricade, two of them poured kerosene on them. Police personnel overpowered both and stopped them from setting themselves afire.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy said a high-level meeting would be held on December 22 to discuss the demands of the association.
