Students of the Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) on Wednesday sat on a dharna in front of the university main gate protesting against hike in cost of meals in hostels.
They lamented that the cost of each meal has been increased from Rs 32 to Rs 35 and students are being asked to deposit Rs 100 as advance money in hotel. Economically weaker students are unable to bear the hiked price, said students.
“Many poor students are studying in this university and staying in different hostels. The increase in cost of meals has hit them,” said Sandeep Mishra, a hostel border.
“We demand immediate withdrawal of the decision,” demanded Mishra and other students.
Vice-Chancellor Prof AK Pati immediately convened a meeting of the staffs and
students and discussed the matter with them.
He assured that there would be no increase in cost of meals and no compromise in quality of food either.
Then, students withdrew the dharna and opened the main gate.
