The Odisha Surakhya Sena (OSS) on Monday urged the Union Civil Aviation Minister to ensure initiation of global flight service at the Biju Patnaik International Airport without any further delay.
Submitting a memorandum to the Minister through the Airport Director, Sena president Abhishek Joshi said that though more than a year has been elapsed since international Airport status accorded, the failure to launch global flight service has taken expectation of people of Odisha to shreds.
“Even in the matter of domestic flight operation, the airport here is lagging behind from other major International Airports of India. The failure to utilise the new terminal and the delay in the operation of global flights from Bhubaneswar has not only adversely affected the economics of the Airport Authority of India (AAI), but also undermined legitimate expectation of people of Odisha,” said Joshi.
He also maintained that when State-owned Air India, Dubai-based Fly-Dubai, Air Asia, Air Arabia and Silk Air have evinced interest to provide commercial global flight service then what keeps them at bay at the expense of interest of Odisha.
