The Academy of Yoga and Oriental Studies (AYOS) observed Gita Jayanti at the Fakirmohan Bhavan here on Saturday. Renowned Sanskrit scholar S Sundar Rajan presided over the meeting and Mihir Kumar Mishra welcomed the guests.

Dr Indulata Das recited Gita Stuti and delivered the introductory speech saying that Arjuna was stupefied to see his kith and kin on the battlefield. losing the balance of his mind, he identified non-duty to be his duty. The knowledge of Gita was imparted to him by lord Krishna to identify his duty. There is an Arjuna in every human being who fails to identify his duty in many perplexing moments. The Gita acts as the pathfinder in such situations.

Retired IPS officer Arun Kumar Upadhyaya gave a speech on “The concept of time in Gita” saying that time has three aspects. It brings a non-reversible change. It is an instrument of measurement of happenings. Death is also known as Kala (time). In the Gita, lord Krishna identifies himself with the Kala.

Many scholars from the audience enriched the discussion by contributing their valuable views. Sundar Rajan, during his presidential address, recited many self-written Sanskrit Slokas which was greatly appreciated by the audience.

Mihir Kumar Mishra thanked the guests and the audience.
