The body of a 19-year-old girl hanging in a tree was recovered under suspicious circumstances in Koira in Sundargarh district on Sunday morning.
According to sources, on Saturday Suchitra, daughter of laxmidhar Mundari of Khariabahal village under the K Bolanga police station had gone to the Koira teshil office to get her caste certificate. Due to road jam she could not return home and met Rohit Singh of Kadadiha village who is working in Smart Valley Marketing Company and was known to her beforehand. She went to Rohit’s house for night halt. But on Sunday morning, her body was found hanging in a tree near Rohit’s house.
On being informed, the police recovered the body and apprehended Rohit. On the other hand, Rohit stated that he did not know about the incident. “I am shocked over the incident. On Saturday night, after taking dinner I slept in a room while Suchitra slept in another room, and in morning I came to know about the incident,” said Rohit.
The police are yet to ascertain whether it is a case of murder or suicide. Meanwhile, the police handed over the body to her family members after postmortem.
