Demanding compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of deceased Bikash Nayak (22) of Bengitangi village under the Khurda police station, who was allegedly killed by her girlfriend on September 30, publisher of Gana Madhyam newspaper Byomakesh Tripathy along with the deceased’s parents at a Press conference here on Saturday too urged the Chief Minister to direct the police administration to arrest the culprit soon.
“It is a very sensational issue. Now, atrocities on men are on the rise. When a woman is murdered or harassed by a man, the Chief Minister immediately announces compensation to the victim’s family. But here a boy, on whom the total family was dependant, was killed by his girlfriend. Neither the Chief Minister provides compensation to his family nor is there any provision to ensure speedy justice to such victims like in the cases of women,” rued Tripathy.
Decrying the police inaction, the deceased’s father Bhima Nayak, a physically-disabled person, said, “Following the incident, we lodged a complaint at the Khurda police station on October 2 against Rila Nayak (18) who killed my son by giving poison. But no action has been taken as yet,” said he.
