A girl committed suicide by consuming poison in front of her lover in Kutra of Sundargarh district on Friday after the latter spurned her overtures.
According to reports, the deceased was a student of Dalmia College under Baragaon block in Rajgangpur. She was madly in love with a youth. But she was under severe mental stress after the youth repeatedly ignored her.
Reports said the girl met the youth for the last time at 10.30 am at the Kutra bus-stand, after which she took poison in front of him, who did not even extend a helping hand to save her. Locals rushed the girl to a nearby hospital. After her condition deteriorated, she was referred to the Rourkela Government Hospital, where she died.
