The State capital has a reputation of being a safe place for woman and girls. But an incident which has come to the fore in the city, a man allegedly molested a minor girl in broad daylight when she was on her way to attend tuition classes in the Laxmisagar area.
The incident occurred on August 21 and was captured on a CCTV camera. Though the family members of the girl lodged a complaint with police on the very day, police are yet to trace and nab the accused
A relative of the victim said “The incident occurred six days back and the same evening we lodged a complaint with the police. The cops also launched a probe, but there is no development in the case till now. They have the CCTV footage with them, still I don’t know why they are dragging their feet in arresting the accused. Today it was me and my family. I don’t want others to face the same ordeal.”
Reports said the girl was heading towards a coaching centre by a bicycle in early morning when the accused, who was riding a scooter, intercepted and molested her on the road. When the victim raised an alarm, he fled the spot.
City Additional Police Commissioner Sanjay Singh said, “A case has been registered and investigation initiated in this connection. We would take action against the accused. I think investigation process would be hampered if we share all details with media now.”
