The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) to probe an alleged case of kidnapping and rape of a minor girl of Tulasipal under the Banarpal police station in Angul district.
The direction came after Angul-based Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain filed a petition at the apex human rights watchdog alleging that though a 16-year-old minor girl was kidnapped from her village on December 24, last year by her fellow villagers, the local police are sitting idle despite being informed.
The NHRC too asked the OHRC for an action-taken report (ATR) in the matter.
The petitioner alleged that though the victim’s family members have lodged a complaint at the Banarpal police station the cops are yet to trace the girl.
Swain prayed the commission for criminal/disciplinary action against the concerned police officials. She urged the commission to direct the police to trace the girl and rehabilitate her, besides ensuring a compensation of `10 lakh to the victim.
