After two youths made an attempt to rape a girl in front of her mother, she, out of shock and agony, took a bid on her life by consuming poison on Monday night at Samagudia village under Kendrapara Town police station.
The accused Dillip Das and Chagala Moharana in order to take revenge on one Ranjan Das of the village whose family had leveled a trolley lifting allegation against them, entered into his house on Monday evening, while the Kartikeswar immersion was going on and Ranjan, a trolley puller, was away with work.
Dillip and Chagala misbehaved Ranjan’s wife and 19-year-old daughter and assaulted them. later, the duo molested the girl. When the relatives of the girl came to their rescue after she and her mother shouted for help, the duo youths fled. As she was molested and humiliated, the hapless girl, after losing her mental balance, made an attempt to commit suicide by consuming poison.
The girl was later rushed to the district headquarters hospital and was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack for treatment.
The family members later lodged an FIR at Kendrapada town police station against the duo youths. Acting on the FIR, Town police registered a case. The DHRPC DSP Ashok Kumar Behera started an inquiry. On Wednesday evening, police also arrested the duo accused youths.
Meanwhile, the condition of the girl is stated to be critical. The Mangalabag police failed to record her statement as she was unconscious.
