A five-year-old girl, who had been working as a domestic help in a family in the Kujang area of Jagatsinghpur district, was rescued by social activist Jyoti Ranjan Barik on Sunday.
The girl was spotted near Singitali Bazaar crying for help on Sunday wee hours. Activist Barik rescued her and got to know that she hails from Sialamal village under Nilagiri block in Baleswar district. The minor was later handed over to the lock Pada police station.
The girl had been working as a domestic help in a family at Singitali village in Kujanga area. She was ill-treated by the family members and later forced to leave their house.
The police have started investigation into the matter, lock Pada police said.
