Tension prevailed at Gadapalasuni under the Parjang police station in the district on Thursday over the death of a minor girl in a road accident as locals resorted to road blockade.
Liza Nayak (15) of Gadapalasuni village was going towards a pond for taking bath when a speeding pickup van hit her, killing her on the spot.
Locals then staged a road blockade by burning tyres and demanded compensation for the family of the deceased placing the body on the road. Vehicular movement on Parjang-Telkoi road was disrupted due to the incident.
The irate locals also detained a police official who had gone to the spot after being informed. Normalcy was restored after senior officials pacified the crowd and promised to look into their demand.
