The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) celebrated its 57th foundation day at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE) campus, a constituent unit of NCERT, here on Friday.

Chief guest Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Prof Soumendra Mohan Patnaik spoke about holistic role of teachers and stressed on the new type of pedagogy in teaching and learning. “life is eternal for learning. We have to overcome the Colonial form of education nowadays. History of colonisation has made us handicapped and we have to get rid of that,” he said.

Prof Patnaik also mentioned about the philosophy of ‘Tattiriya Upanishad’ where teaching pedagogy has been reflected. He emphasised on the classical system of learning where teachers would read or recite the text and then asked for their reflection.

Distinguishing between ‘faith’ and ‘surrender’, he said teachers should build good faith and develop good bonding among the students. A teachers’ sincerity would be such that students would have deep faith in him, but that should not be surrender.
