Four women Gaon Sathis on Tuesday attempted self-immolation in front of the Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here, by pouring kerosene to press their demands.
Gaon Sathis lalita Das, Sushama Behera, Kumuduni Pati and Nirupama Mishra tried to set selves on fire. However, police personnel foiled their attempt.
Earlier on Monday, the Gaon Sathis under the banner of the Gaon Sathi Sangha Milita Kriyanushtana State Committee had staged a dharna in front of the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell demanding job regularisation. Sangha State coordinator laxmidhar Biswal and 50 other Gaon Sathis were arrested.
Sangha members have decided to again gherao the Naveen Niwas on December 14. They have also decided to sell vegetables to the city denizens at fair prices during the rally, informed Biswal. They would continue their ‘vegetable haat’ in front of the Naveen Niwas, he added.
