Ganjam villagers oppose teachers' transfer

Villagers of Ganjam district’s Patrapur block staged a dharna in front of the District Education Officer’s office here on Saturday alleging irregularities in transfer of teachers from schools under the block.

The protestors, who included teachers, alleged that teachers have been transferred deliberately in violation of Government guidelines that permits transfers within eight-km radius only. There is no justification in transferring SC and ST category teachers to schools located at distances of 50 to 60 km, they said.

Citing examples, they said while transfer applications of teachers working over 10 years in remote hilly areas have not been considered, two clerks in the office of the Patrpur Community Education Officer have been transferred.

“ABEO and CRCC have not been consulted and all transfers have been made deliberately. Teachers getting comparative fewer salaries have been fed up after getting transfer orders. A proper probe should be conducted into the whole transfer process,” they demanded.

They too threatened to stage an indefinite dharna at the DEO office if the demand is not met soon.

Youth leaders like Ram Kumar Patro and Manoranjan Dhyansamant, many teachers and villagers sat on the dharna. later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the district Collector at the DEO office in absence of the DEO.
