In yet another incident of post-poll violence in the State, a person was killed and his friend sustained critical injuries in a brutal attack by a group of miscreants in Ganjam district on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Ashok Jena, brother of Kukudahandi block BJD president Sanyasi Jena. His friend Srinivas Swain was grievously and was admitted to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam.
Sanyasi Jena alleged that some Congress workers attacked the duo over a dispute during the panchayat polls.
According to reports, 20 to 25 persons, armed with sharp weapons, attacked Ashok and Srinivas at around 11 pm when they were returning home.
Both were admitted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here, where Ashok succumbed to his injuries. Srinivas was later shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam as his condition deteriorated.
