Ganjam NAC contractors’ dues not cleared

Published on:

n The contractors have submitted a memorandum to the Executive Officer of Ganjam NAC expressing their unwillingness to work under the NAC anymore.

The memorandum collectively signed by all the contractors said that during last few months they feel suffocated to work under Ganjam NAC due to non-payment of their monthly bills.

The contractors have further alleged that, even after completion of the assigned work, most of them do not get their EMD and security deposits in time which they ought to get.

Mention may be made that, most of these contractors are unemployed qualified local youths taking contract works with very little resources. They hardly possess  big capital to undertake any  major contract works.

Therefore, any slightest delay in releasing their payment or untimely payment hits them hard, the memorandum alleged. Sources said that, the movement of files pertaining to all development works in Ganjam NAC remains extremely slow causing worry for the contractors and public.

Though under the PWD Code, the authorities are duty bound to make payment every month to the respective executing agency, surprisingly such payments/dues are not made to them by the Ganjam NAC even after several months of completion of the work.

On the other hand, these pretty contractors are threatened by the EO of the NAC for cancellation of their contracts which is quite deplorable and unfortunate. Because of denial of payment of part works and due to non-payment of dues in time, they feel humiliated and harassed, the memorandum added.

They have requested the EO of Ganjam NAC to review the current position of dues of all the contractors and clear all the pending arrears.
