A Bengaluru police team with support of local cops on Sunday arrested a person from his Kala Jamuna village in Ganjam district for allegedly kidnapping and

murdering a 24-year-old woman in Bengaluru.

Manoranjan Swain (27) had allegedly killed Gayatri Swain (24), who also hailed from Kala Jamuna, in Bengaluru on September 3.

Police found Gayatri’s body on September 4 and informed Ganjam police after identifying her. Manoranjan returned to his village after committing the alleged crime, police said.

Thereafter, a police team from Ganjam along with Gayatri’s father Magata Swain went to Bengaluru. Magata identified his daugher’s body there, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chhatrapur) PP Chaudhary. Magata then lodged a police complaint in Bengaluru.

Manoranjan, who is working as a supervisor at a Bengaluru factory, had been living in a house with the girl after allegedly kidnapping her in May, police said. It is suspected that Manoranjan throttled her to death following a quarrel.
