Ganjam lawyers' body meets Guv

A delegation of lawyers of the Ganjam District Consumer Bar Association (DCBA) led by its president Kailash Chandra Mishra met Governor Dr SC Jamir at the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Thursday and submitted a comprehensive memorandum demanding holding of a Circuit Bench of State Consumer Commission at Brahmapur.

The delegation apprised the Governor that in spite of the orders of the State Government, the Circuit Bench of the State Consumer Commission at Brahmapur was yet to function.

The delegation apprised the Governor that the State has proposed to set up Circuit Benches in Brahmapur and Sambalpur considering the large number of cases pending before the State panel.

A Circuit Bench in Brahmapur would be meant for 10 districts under the Southern Revenue Division and the one proposed in Sambalpur would be meant for entire Northern Division. But the reason for delay in setting up of the bench at Brahmapur is only known to the Government, the delegation told.

After hearing, Jamir directed the Chief Minister’s Office and the State Chief Secretary to furnish detailed reports.
